Culture Fair

I was so proud of all of the students and the wonderful job they did presenting their information during culture fair.  I learned a lot from them!

Student Led Conferences

I look forward to seeing each of you on Monday during student led conferences.  Your child will be showing you examples of their work.

Terra Nova Testing
March 29-31 is our Terra Nova Testing.  Please make sure your child is at school these days.  This test is just one way to evaluate their learning.  The testing will take place each morning until lunch time.

Spelling
This is a review week so there are no new spelling words

Memory Verse
Nehemiah 9:12
You divided the sea before them, so that they passed through it on dry ground,
but you hurled their pursuers into the depths, like a stone into mighty waters.
By day you led them with a pillar of cloud, and by night with a pillar of fire
to give them light on the way they were to take.

No school on Monday, March 13

I hope the long weekend helps everyone to get healthy.  We have been experiencing a lot of colds and fevers in our classroom and many days this week we had 4 children absent.  I hope you all get plenty of rest this weekend.

Because we have a short week there will be No Memory Verse and No Spelling test.

Culture Fair

Friday the 17th is our Culture Fair Day.  All day, various classes will be coming to our room to listen to the students explain what they have learned about their assigned country.  The last hour and a half we will be able to leave and go visit the others classrooms.

This next week we will be practicing our group presentations and writing a report on our country with the information we have gathered.

Also, Friday is our International lunch.  Please let me know if you will be able to bring food.  I have only received three of the sign up papers back regarding food.

Student Led Conference

Monday, March 20th is student led conferences.  There is no regular school for students that day.  You will have the opportunity to listen to your child lead a conference explaining their work for the year and how they have improved.

Please return the conference time sheet next week so we can plan accordingly.  They are in your child's Friday folder.

Progress!

The students have been very busy putting together their country reports.  After doing much of the research on their own, we will be discussing what they learned and giving the students an opportunity to tell the other students what they learned.  The children will also be writing a report paper on their country, using the information from their packet.  This will help them be familiar with their countries before the school comes to see their presentation.

The Culture Fair is on March 17th.  On that day, the kids will have a large International Lunch.  The students will each bring in food to share with all of the 3-5th grade students.  You may decide to bring food from the country you researched or bring a food that is familiar. I will send out more information as we get closer to the feast.

Flat Stanley

We read about Flat Stanley and now the kids have a chance to send their own Flat Stanley on an adventure.  We look forward to sharing adventures in class and will track where they have traveled on the wall in our classroom.

Student Led Conferences

Student Led Conferences will take place on March 20th.

Country Projects

We have had a great week learning about being a part of God's plan.  Today we wrapped up our week in bible by having special guests from our high school talk about their recent trip to Saipan.  They shared pictures and told us about helping with typhoon disaster relief and work they did sharing about God's love with the students in Saipan.

Country Projects are coming along.  Today we painted our display boards and next week the kids will begin organizing their material on their boards.  We have already gotten some projects turned in from home.  They are great!

Remember that the kids need to bring in their finished project, their photo and paragraph by next Tuesday.

February 6-10

This week our students all wore stripes on Tuesday and Mr. Jernberg read us the book,
A Bad Case of Stripes!

We are beginning to do research for our country reports.  A big part of this project is learning how to work effectively as a team.  The kids are learning how to use productive, supportive, language as they work together to find out facts about their specific country.

Today the kids are bringing home a master list of their specific job for the report and when they need to have it finished and returned to the classroom, February 28th.  We will put their information on their display board with the rest of their team's information.

Tonight, February 10th at 6:30 in the library, join us for Reading Night.

Next week is Service Week.  The students have the opportunity to bring in clean used clothing and toys to send to needy families in the Philippines.  These items need to be brought in by
Wednesday. February 15th.

January 30-February 3

This work we introduced the countries we will be learning about the next few weeks for our country reports.  Our class will be learning about Singapore, Taiwan and Indonesia.  Ask your child what country they were assigned to.  They will be bringing information home about what their individual responsibilities will be next week.

I have been so impressed with the amount of reading the students in 3.2 have been doing.  The kids love to read and are doing great finding good fit books that are interesting and challenge them in their reading.  Keep up the good work kids!
