Welcome back!

I hope you are having a wonderful Spring Break!  We have been entertaining guests from the states and have been showing around the island:  Peace Park, Okinawa World,  Shuri Castle, Okuma Beach, Sea Glass Beach, American Village, Ocean Park, HamaZushi, Taguchi Beach, the mangroves, Hiji Falls....so many beautiful places on the island.

Memory Verse
Sunday, April 16, is Easter Sunday when we celebrate the fact that Jesus, a man born 2,000 years ago, who claimed to be the Son of God, rose from the dead.  This event, questioned by some, has changed my life.    Jesus was willing to become like his created beings.  His love for me motivated him to create a way to reestablish my relationship with a living God.   Happy Easter!

Matthew 28:6a

He is not here for He has risen just as He said!

Spring Break!

Terra Nova Testing

We just finished our week of Terra Nova testing.  The kids were very focused on doing their very best.   The results will be mailed to the school in a couple months.  The test is definitely geared to children in the United States so some of the questions were difficult for the children.

Flat Stanley

Our first Flat Stanley's have come back from their adventures!  One was able to explore in France, another went to visit Geronimo Stilton, the author of the famous Geronimo Stilton books that the children enjoy reading so much.  Mr. Stilton writes books for Scholastic but he is from Italy.

Don't forget to take your Flat Stanley on your adventures this Spring Break, near or far -  getting stuck in the vacuum,
or flying to far away places.  We want to track his adventures on our classroom map.

School will resume on April 10th.  We will have a new student in our class on our first day back.  Welcome to Owen!

Make sure your students have enough pencils and erasers when they return.  Many were running out of supplies.  We are also all out of boxes of tissues.

Reminder - Friday, April 14th we have early release at 12:30.

Terra Nova Testing

This next week we will have Terra Nova Testing on Wednesday through Friday morning until lunch.  Your child may bring healthy snacks to eat in the classroom.  Please make sure they get a lot of sleep and come prepared.

This test is just one small measure of their knowledge.

Because of Terra Nova testing there will be no memory verse or spelling words this week.

Spring Break

Spring Break is April 3-7.  Enjoy a time away.  Don't forget to take Flat Stanley with you on any adventures you may take.

In Social Studies we have begun a new unit on North American Explorers.  I have included a link to a song the kids have been listening to in class about Christopher Columbus.  It is written by a teacher from our previous school.  Enjoy!

Culture Fair

I was so proud of all of the students and the wonderful job they did presenting their information during culture fair.  I learned a lot from them!

Student Led Conferences

I look forward to seeing each of you on Monday during student led conferences.  Your child will be showing you examples of their work.

Terra Nova Testing
March 29-31 is our Terra Nova Testing.  Please make sure your child is at school these days.  This test is just one way to evaluate their learning.  The testing will take place each morning until lunch time.

Spelling
This is a review week so there are no new spelling words

Memory Verse
Nehemiah 9:12
You divided the sea before them, so that they passed through it on dry ground,
but you hurled their pursuers into the depths, like a stone into mighty waters.
By day you led them with a pillar of cloud, and by night with a pillar of fire
to give them light on the way they were to take.

No school on Monday, March 13

I hope the long weekend helps everyone to get healthy.  We have been experiencing a lot of colds and fevers in our classroom and many days this week we had 4 children absent.  I hope you all get plenty of rest this weekend.

Because we have a short week there will be No Memory Verse and No Spelling test.

Culture Fair

Friday the 17th is our Culture Fair Day.  All day, various classes will be coming to our room to listen to the students explain what they have learned about their assigned country.  The last hour and a half we will be able to leave and go visit the others classrooms.

This next week we will be practicing our group presentations and writing a report on our country with the information we have gathered.

Also, Friday is our International lunch.  Please let me know if you will be able to bring food.  I have only received three of the sign up papers back regarding food.

Student Led Conference

Monday, March 20th is student led conferences.  There is no regular school for students that day.  You will have the opportunity to listen to your child lead a conference explaining their work for the year and how they have improved.

Please return the conference time sheet next week so we can plan accordingly.  They are in your child's Friday folder.
